Introduction

Rate.fm (formerly Wavelength) is a social app for rating music, made by Union Street Studios LLC (“we”, “our”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Rate.fm, you agree to this policy.

Information We Collect

Account: your phone number or Apple ID sign‑in, plus the username, name, photo, bio, and link you choose to add to your profile.

What you post: ratings, reviews, lists, comments, reactions, and lyrics you save. These are public and appear on your profile, in feeds, and on rate.fm.

Listening: if you connect Apple Music, Spotify, or Last.fm, we import your recently played songs and what you are playing now to build your listening history, stats, and recommendations. You can disconnect at any time in Settings.

Contacts: only if you choose to find friends, we upload hashed versions of the phone numbers in your address book to match them against Rate.fm accounts. We never see the numbers themselves or the names attached to them.

Location: only if you turn on the listening map, we save an approximate location each time a new song starts playing. Points are nudged before they are shown so they never reveal an exact address.

Messages: direct messages and group chats you send inside the app, including photos you attach.

Usage and device data: which screens and features you use, crash and performance reports, your device model, iOS version, app version, and push notification token.

How We Use Information

Run the app: show your profile, feed, stats, and messages.

Recommend music based on what you rate and listen to.

Find friends you already know, when you ask us to.

Send notifications you have turned on.

Understand what is working and fix what is not.

How We Share Information

Publicly: your profile, ratings, reviews, lists, and comments are visible to anyone, in the app and on rate.fm.

Music services: Apple Music, Spotify, and Last.fm receive requests on your behalf when you connect them. Their own privacy policies apply.

Service providers: companies that host our servers and database, deliver push notifications, send verification texts, and process crash reports, under contracts that protect your data. Messages you send to the in‑app assistant are processed by an AI provider to generate its reply.

Apple: the optional badge subscription is billed by Apple. We never see your payment details.

Legal: when required by law, to keep people safe, or as part of a business transfer.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account from Settings inside the app, which removes your profile, ratings, reviews, lists, messages, and listening history. Some records may be kept where the law requires it.

Your Rights

You can edit or delete anything you have posted, disconnect music services, revoke contacts and location access in iOS Settings, and delete your account at any time. Email us to request a copy of your data.

Your rights may vary by region (e.g., EEA/GDPR, California/CCPA).

Children

Rate.fm is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and we delete it if we learn we have.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will change the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
